COOK - KITCHEN (Finance)
The County of Riverside's University Health System - Medical Center seeks a Cook to join their team. Under supervision, the Cook will prepare, cook, and serve food at a County operated facility; take directions from superiors in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals; execute proper food handling, hygiene, and kitchen sanitation; and perform other related duties as required. This position is located in Moreno Valley.
The Cook is the journey level classification in the Cook series and reports to a supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents are required to perform the full-range of cooking assignments within prescribed procedures and may guide the work of others toward the efficient accomplishment of tasks, but are not responsible for a food service function. Positions allocated to the Riverside University Health System-Medical Center (RUHS-MC) are assigned to the kitchen and work under the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Services Manager and/or Supervising Cook.
The RUHS-MC is a 24-hour facility - incumbents must be flexible to work any shift including weekends and holidays.
The schedule is as follows: 5/40 Monday to Sunday, Day and Night Shift, (Schedule will vary/rotates according to need).
This position requires a valid Food Handler's Permit issued by the County of Riverside upon hire. If you currently have a valid permit, please attach a copy to your application.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Prepare, cook and season soups, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts, baked goods, and other foods; follow master recipes in the preparation of food.
• Assist in ordering, receiving, checking, and storing foods and supplies.
• Guide the work of Food Service Workers assigned to the cooking area, in the cleaning of food preparation equipment and areas; may perform meat-cutting duties.
• Prepare routine records and reports when required; will be required to work various shifts when other cooks are not available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: One year of large quantity cooking experience in an institutional, military, large commercial kitchen, or similar setting which has developed skills in measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes and number of persons to be served.
OPTION II
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: Two years in a position equivalent to a County of Riverside Food Service Worker.
OPTION III
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: One year in food service work within a detention facility.
OPTION IV
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: One year in a position equivalent to a County of Riverside Cook.
Knowledge of: The practices, methods, and equipment used in preparing and cooking food in large quantities from recipes; sanitation methods in cleaning and caring of equipment; storing and inventorying large quantities of food; common weights and measures; occupational hazards and safety precautions of kitchen areas and equipment.
Ability to: Prepare, cook, and coordinate cooking processes so that nutritional meals are prepared and served on time; read and understand recipes, labels, and instructions for food preparation; perform basic mathematical operations to determine the proportions of ingredients with a minimum of waste; follow oral and written directions; guide and provide concise instructions to Food Service Workers; cut, slice, and grind meat and poultry; maintain personal cleanliness and neatness; maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the position; prepare routine records and reports.
A Riverside County Issued Food Handler's card is required prior to hire.
Other Requirements:
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.
Possession of a valid Food Handler Card or Food Safety Manager Certification.
Food service experience in a healthcare or hospital setting is a Plus.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This classification's rate of pay will be set in accordance with California Senate Bill 525 requirements for applicable departments.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
