ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Office of the General Counsel provides professional legal advice, representation and counsel to USF including USF Health and campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota-Manatee. Our experienced attorneys and support team work closely together to provide responsive, timely and accurate legal advice and counsel to the University of South Florida including its component units, direct support organizations and Board of Trustees. Our daily work is focused on facilitating the implementation of USF's strategic vision, priorities and goals. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Associate General Counsel will be responsible for assisting the General Counsel in the management and handling of all regulatory and transactional legal matters in the field of business and finance for USF as well as its affiliated support organizations. Regular counsel shall be provided to USF?s senior management related to but not limited to the following: all legal documents including contracts, procurement regulations, and other university business transactions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Negotiate and Advise on Procurement Contracts: Ensure university procurement activities align with Florida statutes and regulations, minimizing legal risks and fostering compliance.
Compliance Expertise: Provide expert guidance on regulatory adherence, enhancing the efficiency and legality of procurement processes while reducing potential liabilities.
Strategic Legal Resolutions: Develop timely, effective resolutions in collaboration with USF's business and finance teams to support seamless operations and mitigate disputes.
Comprehensive Agreement Review: Evaluate and finalize agreements including affiliation, revenue-generating, and memorandums of understanding to advance the goals of USF's colleges and departments. Offers strategic advice and guidance on vendor transactions and contracts to strengthen partnerships and optimize value for the university.
Collaborate with colleagues to deliver well-rounded legal advice in areas such as public records, administrative law, and subpoena management, ensuring compliance and operational integrity.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor of Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree with a minimum of eight years as a practicing attorney. Admission to the Florida Bar in good standing.
