Hatchery Manager (Finance)
Produce the best quality birds at the lowest cost possible while meeting Simmons' standards.
Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.
Directs and supervises production. Responsible for achieving production goals set forth in collaboration with senior leadership. Directs and coordinates through the Assistant Hatchery Manager hatchery activities of all shifts which include: hatching of eggs, sorting, vaccinations, quality checks, equipment maintenance, etc. Oversees first-line employees' schedules.
Ensures product meets all quality requirements . Ensures quality checks are conducted within the specified timeline. Monitors the facility to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare audit at all times. Ensures environmental policies and sanitation procedures are being followed. Responsible for the facility's hygiene, housekeeping, and appearance. Take corrective action when needed. Ensures procedures are followed for testing and timely reporting.
Responsible for costing efficiency. Plans, develops, and implements the yearly hatchery budget and ensures operations stay within the set budget. Manages supplies, utilities, labor, etc. in a cost efficient manner. Committed to continuous improvement in order to maximize efficiency and reduce costs. Responsible for the allocation of resources in line with Simmons cost structure
Overviews cross functional department's operations. Reviews shipping schedules and ensures orders are fulfilled and shipped according to schedule. Ensures preventive maintenance is conducted appropriately. Oversees operations of the maintenance team and is responsible for their compliance with OSHA's rules and regulations. Generates various reports. Creates internal reports to track performance, spending, trends, and changes within the facility.
Promotes a safe work environment. Monitors the facility and p romotes a safe work environment to ensure it meets safety requirements in compliance with all policies and regulations set forth by Simmons, OSHA, DOT, and various government agencies concerning safety.
Manages employees. Directs and supervises employees' work activities and monitors work performance. Collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview and hire candidates. Administers disciplinary actions and recommends performance improvement actions in collaboration with the HR Manager. Monitors work performance and recommends compensation decisions based on guidelines. Follows Simmons values to develop and maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees. Promotes a cooperative and harmonious environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement.
Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a hatchery environment and surrounding property. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and dark environments as needed. Must be able to be on call 24/7 as needed.
Travel: Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities. A company vehicle is assigned for this position. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel on a daily basis.
Technical Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in a Management or leadership role in a related field.
Industry Experience: Preference for poultry of food processing organizations.
Minimum Education : Bachelor of Science in Poultry Science/Animal Science or related agricultural field or 4 years related work experience.
